Prague, Czech Republic: We Be Burnin'

Just arrived in Prague and the weather has has not improved from our days in Barcelona. It is wet, windy, and chilly. Luckily, our apartment isn't too far from the city center so we decided to take a stroll in the rain and get a feel for the city and its people.

After just one day, the people of Prague have come across as cool, aloof, and dismissive. We thought it was us at first, but it seems to be the way they communicate, even with one another. When we tried to buy our train tickets to Vienna for later this week, the person in tourist information clearly had zero interest in helping us. She sent us to the ticket counter, and then the ticket counter rep sent us right back to tourist information. We experienced more of the same the rest of the day. It could be that they're not too nice, or it could be that we grew too accustomed to the kindness and warm nature of the Catalonians!

On a funny note, the 18 to 28 year olds are crazy... many of them sport mohawks and other crazy hair-dos. They drive around playing their music really loudly, and they can't seem to get enough of Sean Paul! He was blasting out of many of the cars driving around the city center reeeeeeally slowly... we thought we were back in Seaside Heights, NJ!

Here's some pics from our walk...

The view from the Charles Bridge leading into the city center...

Saints line each side of the walkway on the Charles Bridge...

What's everyone looking at?

The world famous, medieval Astronomical Clock, made all the way back in the 15th century... every hour the clock puts on a little show that the tourists (like us) gather round to watch...

The little statues to the sides of the clock pull down on these little ropes...
The windows on top open up and these crazy-looking characters briefly pass through the windows and look down at us...

... and about 4-5 seconds later, the show is over!
We return to our walk through the city center... as the sign clearly indicates, no cars allowed; pedestrians can walk in peace!

A beautiful fountain in the middle of a little park...

Beautiful view from under the archway of a building...
You walk through this tower to get inside the historic quarter. Since we are staying just outside the city center to save some cash, this was our view as we left the city...

... to ride the tram; 14 Czech crowns (about 60 cents) gets you almost anywhere in or around the city.
