The last time we were in Florence five years ago, we raced around the city in an attempt to see all the attractions in our 3 days/2 nights. We walked across the Ponte Vecchio, hiked to the top of the Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo), visited the Uffizi Gallery and Medici Chapels, and stopped by the Accademia to see the statue of David.
This time around, we decided to put the cameras away and just enjoy the city. However, we did take a return trip inside the Duomo. As we were admiring the beauty of the church, a large group of English speaking Indian tourists pulled up alongside us and we could overhear bits and pieces of their conversation:
Tour Guide: ... and here we have blah blah... these statues were built by blah blah...
Indian Tourist: Was the Duomo built in B.C. or A.D.?
Tour Guide: *confused pause*
Tour Guide: Um... all churches are built A.D. It is after the death of Christ.
Indian Tourist: *silence* Oh.
