The Danube River

We rented bikes today and took a leisurely ride from the Vienna city center to the Danube River. And by leisurely, we mean that we were both panting like pathetic desk jockeys after about 45 minutes. Finally, after a much longer ride than either one of us expected, we made it to the Danube River. Unfortunately, we were both a little underwhelmed. The water was really dirty and there weren't many sights.

We still don't know how we made it back to the hotel, but we did and feel less guilty for our daily indulgence in rich foods, sumptuous desserts and gelato. Vienna has some amazing architecture, however, similar to Florence, the buildings are huge and spaced very close to one another with small alleys separating them.

Either way, here's some pics...

The Donaukanal... a man-made canal running from the Danube River to the heart of the Vienna city center. There are biking and hiking trails along both sides of the canal...

Crossing over the canal... Web is riding a cool, tourist bike!

The dirty Danube... not quite as picturesque as we had hoped...

In Vienna, bikers, pedestrians, and rollerbladers get their own lane... even along the freeways and major bridges!

Check that bike out one more time!
