We walked along the back streets of downtown Athens, passing the Temple of Zeus and finally making it to the top of the Acropolis. We were able to take in the Athens landscape, Temple of Athena Nike (what is left of it), Temple of Dionysos, Parthenon (built in the 5th century), and the ancient city of Agora (a little bit different from Agoura Hills, CA). The day was beautiful and the hike was amazing. We hiked down from the Acropolis and walked around Agora, visiting the Theossis temple and Socrates' gym.
After a quick break for lunch, we took a stroll to the National Archeology Musuem. Some of the artifacts in the museum are from the Macedonian Empire... many of their artifacts date back to between the 6th and 10th century... BC! Unfortunately, on our way out of the museum it started raining. We weren't too discouraged... after Barcelona and Prague, we'll take any sun we can get!
On a happy note, all the temples, monuments and museums in Greece were free today for National Museum Day, saving us over $40 USD in admission fees!
