Sex Slaves

One of the perks of being on an extended trip is the time to read. I've already finished Jhumpa Lahiri's two books: Interpreter of Maladies and The Namesake (both excellent), Ali Smith's The Accidental (mediocre), and am currently working on Graham Green's The Quiet American.

In Nha Trang, I finished reading Sex Slaves by Louise Brown. This book is a very sobering publication on the human trafficking currently taking place in SE Asia. About 15 minutes after completing this book, JB, Jaime and I decided to sit down and watch the locals play soccer on the beach. Little did we know that we took our seats next to a "working woman!"

Do you want to know how a person screws up trying to get a hooker into bed? Here's how: Extremely hairy, overweight and unkempt German Man + cheapskate qualities + canvas bag + rope = Failed interaction.

To recap...
- very gross man approaches working lady and says "do you have time?"
- friendly working lady asks him to sit down beside her and a friend who is selling souvenirs
- very gross man refuses to buy anything from working lady's friend, not even a $1 postcard
- very gross man engages friendly working lady in some harmless conversation
- very gross man shows friendly working lady his canvas bag... and pulls out a ROPE!
- friendly working lady says she is busy
- very gross man leaves looking very unhappy

... and that, my friends, is how a person screws up getting a hooker into bed!

Friendly working lady...
