Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

To get away from the craziness of Hanoi, we decided to take some side trips out of the city. Our trips included 2 days in Ha Long Bay (~ 3 hrs. NE of Hanoi by bus) followed by a biking tour from Tam Coc to Hoa Lu (~2 hrs. South of Hanoi by car).

Jaime and I are both notorious for getting violently ill on our boat trips. Following every one of our recent boat trips, we made promises to one another to never set foot again on another boat... these promises never last. Fortunately, the Ha Long Bay trip is the first time in years where we made it off a boat spending the whole trip looking into the bottom of a garbage can. We're so glad we decided to go!

Without getting into too much detail, and despite not getting sun on either one of our two days at sea, Ha Long Bay was beautiful--over 3,000 limestone rock formations emerging straight out of the bottom of the sea. Here's some pics of what the Vietnamese proudly refer to as the "descending dragon"...

It's so beautiful. You need to come with us to some places in China.
