Journey to Chiang Mai...

This is the overnight train that we took from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. For our East Coast peeps, just think NJ Transit... only much much worse and you need to catch some winks on this thing! After this "fun" experience, we probably won't be riding any more trains in Asia.

Two funnies from the trip:
1. After a 16 hour journey marked by jarring bumps, noises in the night, sleeping next to the toilet stall and random drunk people wandering through our cab at all hours of the night, we arrive in Chiang Mai tired, a bit delirious from lack of sleep and just a little bit cranky. It's all better after we find out that we could have taken a 50 minute flight for almost the same cost. Awesome.

2. After repeated trips to the bathroom throughout the evening, we wake in the morning and use the "toilet". What we found in the light of day is that our "toilet" is actually just a hole in the floor! Note to self: Don't ever go near the train tracks in Thailand! Ewww.

Places that we plan to visit in Chiang Mai:
- Wat Doi Suthep (a famous temple that overlooks the city)
- Elephant training camp (www.thailandelephant.org)
- Local orphanage
