Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai (CM) is located in northern Thailand, near the border of Burma and Laos. CM is similar to Thousand Oaks, CA (shout out to our peeps in TO) in that it is situated in a little valley surrounded by mountain ranges. Every year around this time, the fires start raging and there is nothing they can do to stop them. Their rainy season ends in November; this year, they haven't had a drop of rain since November 1, 2006! The fires are the worst anyone can remember in years, and the result is that the air is filled with soot/ash/smoke. A few days ago, all CM residents were advised to stay inside because the air conditions were below Thai standards (they have air quality standards here?).

Web's eyes start burning and tearing the second he steps outside after being indoors for a stretch... and we thought Bangkok was bad! After 3 days in CM, our lungs have officially stopped working.
